The German manufacturer offers an attractive new vehicle if you've like the electric sedan Mercedes-Benz, the EQS, but it's at its six-figure price tag (or don't think you need its various whistles). The EQE, a somewhat smaller vehicle on the same technological platform that would definitely be a few dollars cheaper when it debuts next year, was unveiled by Mercedes-Benz on Sunday. However, prices were not shared by the company.
At the 2021 IAA Mobility conference, the EQE was unveiled together with a couple of other electrical systems from Stuttgart: the small EQB SUV, AMG Performance and Maybach version, and the G-Wagen electric concept.
Although EQE is 3.5 inches shorter than EQS, it will have many of the same characteristics as the company's top electric car — indeed, Mercedes-Benz states that in its news release, EQE will 'continue with the excellent genes of EQS.'
That stated, several of the most prominent characteristics of the EQS are no longer common. The vast 'hyper screen,' which dominates the dashboard, is offered as an option. In addition, rear-axle steering is provided as an option. (The rear axle steering system stands at 4.5 degrees with EQS, while purchasers may pay extra to effectively 'unblock' 10 degrees of rear-axle steering.) The EQE will also be updated and updated over the air.
The EQE rear-wheel-drive launch model will use the same 90kWh battery pack that powers the EQS base model, which the company says is suitable for a whole load of up to 660 kilometers (410 miles) – although the figure is built on the forgiving European WLTP standard, which is likely to reduce a more realistic range estimate.
This EQE will decrease considerably by 288 hours compared to the 516HP of the all-wheel-drive EQS. Mercedes-Benz claims that a second version will be available when it is launched, but the second EQE is more or less capable of being found.
Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz claims that the EQE's interior size "significantly exceeds" that of the current E-Class by building on a foundation for electric vehicles and dipping the combustion engine. This implies almost one extra inch of shoulder space for people sitting upfront and an additional three inches in the inner length. Sitting on top of the battery pack also means that the EQE provides a higher sitting posture to improve driving vision.
The EQS appears already worthy of Tesla's Model S Plaid, so the EQE is all about making what Mercedes-Benz does with its electric vehicles a bit better, affordable, and easier to get. And, as long as it is operational, the EQE could be a far more prospector than some of Mercedes-early Benz's attempts like the EQC, which had many compromises because of the fact that it was built on a combustion engine platform rather than a ground-up electric vehicle – one of its objectives when it revealed the Vision EQS concept for the first time in 2019.
"EQE is already the second model of our luxury and premium electric vehicle platform after the EQS," said Markus Schäfer, Chief Operating Officer of Mercedes-Benz, in a declaration. "This pace of innovation demonstrates the benefits of the scalable architecture: with a new EQE, we are fast to offer a broader range of customers the technology-based options of our electric flagship EQS."
One of the other great objectives set by Mercedes-Benz in 2019 with the vision EQS was sustainability, and this aim is supported by EQE. The firm claims that the car's structural coat is composed of recycled steel and that many interior components are of recycled and renewable materials, including cable pipelines. Mercedes-Benz further states that cobalt accounts for less than 10 percent of battery chemistry.
This is wonderful to hear from a business that spent years, like did Volkswagen, lying about its diesel vehicles' actual emissions and deliberately duplicating regulators. Although it will probably not increase sales of EQE. Mercedes-Benz will instead have to persuade customers that the sedans still have a place in the world – and that the E-Class is just as worth a year's pay as its predecessors with petrol.
